On MutantsandMasterminds.com:

Paragons and Popular Culture

The Breakout is an event without precedent in human history. No other moment has so redefined the nature of the world and the future of humanity (and para-humanity). So it’s something of an understatement to say popular culture around the world has gone paranormal-crazy. People around the world are positively obsessed with the living gods who walk amongst them, with all the good and bad that implies. The paranormal is the driving force in popular culture, drawing everything else along in its massive wake.

RPG.net releases an article column called: “A Brief History of the Game”, where they highlight key moments in an RPG genre’s history. Article #15 and #16 detail the history of the superhero genre and I felt it (obviously) appropriate for the fans on games like Mutants & Masterminds. If you go back 3 decades with superhero games, take a moment to reminisce. If you are relatively new to superhero RPGs (thanks to M&M…) then read these two articles to familiarize yourself on what came before!

I came across this last week and it looks like I’m early in the game! A group of gamers–Jeremy Bass, Jeremiah Henson, and Blake Trebert–have created a comic inspired by their Mutants and Masterminds game. They are only three pages in and it looks as if one page is getting released every Thursday, so you’ll be early to check it out as well if you get you spandex wearing wazoos over there right now and show these troupers some Superlink support!

Fortean Phenomeona

Not all paranormal events in the world can be connected to a paragon “agent.” Since the Breakout, strange things simply happen from time to time, with no apparent rhyme or reason. These events have come to be known as “Fortean” after Charles Fort, famous cataloguer of the strange and unusual.

Explanations of Fortean phenomena are as common as those for paranormals and their powers, and about as reliable. There are a number of theories, but no hard evidence for any of them as yet. Like paranormals, many Fortean events seem unexplainable, at least by the known laws of science.

In the next preview of the upcoming NCB Files, we take a look at a man fighting for the future of his country, Captain Megastar: a man with the weight of the world on his shoulders, and who could very well be the only thing standing between the Iron Reich and victory.

Biography

Nicholas Darrens grew-up in the inner-city of Autumn Arbor, being born and raised in the Liberty Heights district of the City of Legends. The first of two children of Joseph and Marie Darrens, Nick was always driven to help and protect others, and would regularly get into neighborhood fights for the protection of his friends from bullies and assorted gang members.

Born a Neo, Nick’s powers manifested when he was seven years old. Upset that one of his remote control car’s batteries had died, Nick’s surging emotions caused a small electrical current to erupt from his fingertips, recharging the battery and calming the otherwise upset child. Although Nick would continue to be able to generate bio-electrical discharges as he grew older, his abilities would never naturally develop beyond such minor displays. With his powers never developing to the levels of more famous and powerful Neos, Nick was able to keep his abilities a secret and lead a rather normal childhood. When Nick attended High School, he eventually met and fell in love with a beautiful young woman by the name of Kara Sanders.
